"Metaphor" by Sylvia Plath
The tone of the poem "Metaphor" by Sylvia Plath is very sad. The tragic behavior of society toward over weight women is shown in the poem when the narrator compare her self to an elephant. The speaker is very concerned about her weight in the poem."This loaf's big with its yeasty rising" in line five the speaker is comparing her self to the loaf which is big due to yeast rising. This shows speaker is over weight like big loaf of bread. The movie "Precious" by Lee Daniells is similar to the poem "Metaphor" because it showed how a 16 year old over weight teen faced abuse, difficulties in her life. The precious lives happily after she took custody of her babies from her mother who wanted to keep them so she can have the money from the well fare. People should have courage like precious to take life in to their own hands rather then someone else to abuse and take advantage of misery and dependence of others. The poem and movie reflect the real life experiences of women face today in society which can be solved to promote peace and harmony in the world.
